Jeffrey Deckman CEO of Synet, Inc.
Jeffrey S. Deckman began his career in 1974, when he entered the Cable Television industry. He started his first business in 1981, and later founded SyNet, Inc., a structured cabling and LAN/WAN integration firm, in 1987. Since 1990 Deckman has been an instrumental force in Rhode Island's IT industry. He was a co-author and a pro-bono lobbyist for one of the nation's first state-based telecommunications licensing laws, which passed into Rhode Island legislation in 1994. Deckman then served as Vice Chairman of the Rhode Island Telecommunications Contracting Board. In 1996 Deckman became a founding board member of TechCorps Rhode Island and received their first annual "Volunteer of the Year" award in 1999. In 1997 he became a founding board member of Rhode Island's Information Technology Academy and he now sits on Rhode Island's "Portal Review" committee participating in the creation of the RI.Gov website. In 2001 Deckman was appointed by Governor Lincoln Almond to serve on the Board of Directors for the Rhode Island Economic Policy Council where he has been asked to develop and spearhead the "Rhode Island Smart Building Initiative". Most recently he was awarded the Governors IT Achievement award for "Outstanding Community Service" to the IT industry in the state of Rhode Island.
Deckman is considered, nationally, as an innovator and an expert on fair and equitable contracting licensing methods, and on effective Smart Building strategies. Furthermore, He is a published author on a variety of IT related subjects in both textbooks and periodicals. Finally, Deckman has spoken at national conferences on licensing issues, Smart Building strategies, and a variety of other IT related subjects.
